So I am working on an order for a Drop Deck right now so I thought I would post some pics of the process. One of the great things about having a work from home business is that I can get all of my kids involved in the stuff I do. Which is great. Spend time with the kids....work on stuff I love. I am truly blessed. anyway here are the pics:
I am making two versions of this deck, a 5/8" version and a 3/8" version. I make all my boards our of Baltic Birch right now, for the strength and the look of the wood.
The 5/8" boards are super stiff and are pretty tough, while the 3/8" boards have a lot of flex in them...still strong though.
Starting to take shape:

Being commited to spreading the Word of God is one of the underlying philosophies behind every board I make. So one of the unique attributes of riding a TiPSI D longboard is that every board carries a bit of that word allowing you to live that verse in Ephesians, " place on your feet whatever makes you ready to spread the Gospel of Peace" (Eph 6:15)

Translation: The Lord is my Light and Salvation, whom shall I Fear?
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he
should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault,
and it will be given to him” (James 1:5).
So there are a lot of businesses out
there...so what makes mine different? Well for one thing, instead of
using a conventional business model...where one makes a businesses
plan and presents it to the bank and gets a start-up loan, I started
Tipsi D longboards using a biblical model of finance.
But I guess that I should probably put
things in to context. Just over seven years ago, like many other
North Americans out there, we were swimming in debt.....with a
capital D. One time I actually sat down and figured out that if I
only worked to pay the principal...never mind the interest on our
credit cards, it would take 15 years to pay off what we owed on
credit cards!!! There comes a time when a man is faced with the stark
reality that he can not do things alone. When that time comes...it
can cause a man to fall. Which is exactly what I did....to my knees.
I realized that if I was to ever get
out of this mess, I would need to turn to God for help. Around this
time several things happened within months of each other...in a way
that can only be described a providential. First, we went on a family
retreat that totally blew us away! We were pretty devout already, but
this retreat brought our faith to a whole new dimension! It was there
I pleaded with God to help us out of our Debt Crisis.
Next we heard about this family called
the Duggars who at the time had 17 kids and started to watch their
reality show....which I where I first learned about the Scriptural
principles for financial management.
To make a long story short, after about
4 years of following the financial principles laid out in Scripture,
we are credit card free. Line of credit free. Car payment free. Check
out this site for some of
these principles I mentioned.
here are some pics of a board that I am working on:
Welcome to the TiPSI D Longboard Shop!
So here my story...... I am just an ordinary guy who happens to like
making longboards. I am a husband. A father of seven, that's right,
seven kids. I am also a carpenter, a storyteller, a youth minister
and devout Christian. Usually people expect me to stop there, but I
also do about a dozen of other things which I will probably talk
about later because people start to think I am crazy....as if having
seven kids in not crazy enough.
I could go over some long winded
explanations about why I started making longboards, but the short
version is that as carpenter I love working with wood already. As a
Christian, making longboards struck me as a cool way to spread the
Each of my longboards are hand made, by
me. I mainly use Baltic Birch for my decks because I like the look
and feel. I know that there are a lot of guys out there making decks
out of maple....and perhaps I will give it a shot sometime. To be
honest I am not much of a rider right now, (I do snowboard) however I
do know how to work with wood.
I just got a new shipment of material
in which means that I will be making a fleet of boards over the next
week or two. Be sure to keep checking for pictures and updates!
